Award-Winning California Mid-Century Gothic Church Roof

Award-Winning Shingle Roof Installation: California Midcentury Gothic Roof — timeless craftsmanship expressed through dramatic form and disciplined execution. Wedge Roofing is honored to receive the ARMA (Asphalt Roofing Manufacturers Association) Silver Award for this complex church reroofing project. This sanctuary’s roof is a striking hyperbolic paraboloid — a double-curved structure shifting from steep slope to near vertical. From the street, it reads as a single sweeping arc. Inside, it lifts the eye and draws in light. Our responsibility was to preserve that architectural symbol while rebuilding the roofing system for decades of service.

• Removal of failing shingles and dry rot repair

• Renewal of the lower membrane with a high-solids silicone coating

• Installation of a Douglas-fir ridge deck

• Alternating operable and fixed skylights to restore light and ventilation

• Installation of Owens Corning shingles, precision-fastened for steep vertical transitions

• Custom-formed flashings designed to move water down and out

The result: clean courses bending seamlessly around the curve, a disciplined ridge line, and a durable roofing system built for high wind and long service life.
