Yummy Gingerbread Roofs in the San Francisco Bay Area

Gingerbread Roofing

Wedge Roofing presents their 4th annual Gingerbread Roofing Blog. This year we are taking a grand tour of edible roofs featured on famous San Francisco Bay Area landmarks. Please enjoy, and remember only roofs on gingerbread houses are safe for human consumption. Happy Holidays!

San Francisco Victorian Gingerbread Townhouses

Any proper tour of gingerbread roofs must include San Francisco Victorian homes, emblazoned with exterior gingerbread embellishments. The colorful gable roofs on this trio of Queen Anne Victorian townhouses are constructed of high-grade gumdrop shingles designed for durability and long-lasting chewing enjoyment by GAF, North America’s largest manufacturer of roofing for gingerbread houses. San Francisco Ferry Building โ€“ Chocolate Flat Roof

A delectable rendition of the San Francisco Ferry Building was created by pastry chef Angela Salvatore of Waterbar Restaurant. This rooftop view of the landmark building offers an excellent perspective of the chocolate-saturated, built-up roofing system. Designed with extra-thick chocolate plies, to withstand the weight of Santaโ€™s sleigh and reindeers, this flat roof is both durable and yummy. (Image Credit: 7×7.com)

Alcatraz Federal Prison: Sugar and Spice and Everything Nice

The culinary experts at Barrel House Tavern in Sausalito decided to sweeten Alcatraz, San Franciscoโ€™s notorious former federal prison in this unique gingerbread creation. Closed since 1963, the flat roofs on Alcatraz are built-up layers of licorice, with the sloped roofs constructed of oversized gingerbread shingles. (Image credit: Sausalito Gingerbread House Tour)

Bridgeway Promenade Sausalito, Marin County

In Marin Countyโ€™s waterfront city of Sausalito, the talented real estate experts at Golden Gate Sotheby’s International Realty recreated the Bridgeway promenade in gingerbread, including their office, Angelino Restaurant, Venice Gourmet, and Pick Me up Chocolate. All of these gingerbread buildings boast sugar-infused spray foam roofing with a protective Cool Roof Icing Coating. (Image credit: Hoodvibe)

Marin County Savory Shingle Roof – Muir Woods

From Muir Woods in Marin County is this cozy gingerbread house, surrounded by a grove of majestic Redwood trees. Manufactured by Trader Joe’s – a new name in the edible roofing industry – this Pistachio Pomegranate Crisp roof mimics the look of cedar wood shingles, while providing a โ€œsavory and sweet” flavor. These twice-baked roof crackers feature  โ€œnutty gold pistachios and flax embellished with tart red pomegranates,โ€ and are the perfect roofing material for all gingerbread homes. Sonoma Valley Gingerbread Wineries

Topping off our tour is a visit to Sonoma Valley to experience gingerbread nibbling paired with world-class wine tasting sponsored by Sonoma Valley Vintners & Growers.

Larson Family Winery

In the heart of the Carneros Valley is the five-generation Larson Family Winery, where the Vintners have lovingly recreated their historic barn-turned tasting room into a gingerbread masterpiece. This mixed-materials roof features red candy clay tiles with a Title 24 Confectionerโ€™s Sugar Cool Roof Coating. (Image credit: Sonoma Valley Wine)

Chateau St. Jean Winery

In Sonoma Valleyโ€™s Kenwood area is Chateau St. Jean Winery. The breathtaking splendor of this historic French chateau was fully replicated by master gingerbread house builder Kelly Cleaver and features a striking terracotta candy tile roof.   (Image credit: Sonoma Valley Wine)
